Boggo Road Station

Brisbane households recently received a brochure from the Queensland Government promoting Cross River Rail, and more information has been published at the website.

Although we did not expect a bicycle route to be included parallel to this new railway line, we had hoped to see plans for improvements to the active transport links in the vicinity of each of the new stations.

boggordfactsheetThe infrastructure works around the new Boggo Road Station ought to finally enable the missing connection between the University of Queensland and O’Keefe Street, linking to the eastern suburbs and the Veloway. This east-west connection on the south side of Brisbane is desperately missing. A link between Peter Doherty St / Railway Tce and the bikeway past the PA Hospital Bus Station is shown in the State Government’s Principal Cycle Network Plan, and this major infrastructure project would be the perfect opportunity to finally construct it.

The brochure for Boggo Road Station highlights providing a direct access to the Princess Alexandra Hospital via a new, direct pedestrian and bicycle link. However, the drawings (available via the Department of State Development website) appear to only show a pedestrian underpass to Princess Alexandra Hospital (on Kent St), and not a bicycle link.

The brochure also mentions that a new pedestrian bridge will be built linking Boggo Road Busway Station with Park Road Station. Again, we would hope to see this major project provide an opportunity for a much needed bicycle route connecting Park Road and Boggo Road.
