Ash Murray
Donald and Mary from Brisbane CBD BUG caught up with Ash Murray, Labor’s candidate for Central Ward for a bike ride from Teneriffe into the CBD.

Ash doesn’t own a car, and usually walks to work, so it’s no surprise he appreciates how calmer traffic can make walking and cycling not only safer, but more pleasant ways to get around the city. Like us, Ash is concerned by Council’s record of inaction on extending the CityLink Cycleway – especially into The Valley and connecting through to Breakfast Creek.
He also noted how much more comfortable it felt to ride (or walk) in places like the Riverwalk, where people walking and cycling have their own space and can move at a comfortable speed.
We also spoke about the need for better detours around major projects like the Eagle Street Pier redevelopment, and Council’s planned works in Victoria Park.
Thanks Ash for your time. It would be great to have a Councillor in Central Ward who appreciates how designing for walking and cycling can make the city better for everyone.
