Latest Weekly Digest

21 Feb 2021

The CityLink Cycleway on Edward St is open, and we’re celebrating!! Progress is also looking good on Victoria Bridge and the Indooroopilly Riverwalk, plus connecting the Ipswich Mwy Cycleway at Granard Rd. No love in St Lucia though, with bike lanes gone from Sir Fred Schonell Drive and a rally against a green bridge to Guyatt Park. A new intersection design for Rochedale doesn’t really cater for the school traffic we should be encouraging.

As we celebrate a milestone and major progress in the CBD, we’re reminded Brisbane still has a long way to go in the suburbs. The Active Transport Advisory Group is a great initiative to get things rolling. This week, we find Brenda Bones still waiting at Viola Place, and pedestrians and cyclists waiting far too long for their turn all over the city! Congestion is in the news, but the bikeways are flowing. Around the suburbs: Cannon Hill, Morningside, Hawthorne, Norman Park, East Brisbane, St Lucia, Graceville, and Brisbane Airport.

7 Feb 2021

This week, the CityLink Cycleway is in the news and work on Edward St is going well. We look at some of the possibilities and frustration on the east side – including Bulimba Barracks. It’s disappointing to see that bike lanes have disappeared from Sir Fred Schonell Drive at UQ. Better news on the Centenary Cycleway as the tunnel breaks through at Sumners Rd.

31 Jan 2021

Another momentous week: the CityLink Cycleway along Elizabeth St is open!! We’re enjoying riding across Victoria Bridge now it is free of cars, and loving the North Brisbane Bikeway which we helped to officially open this week. We report on improvements to the intersection of Creek St and Ann St in the CBD, and to Sandgate Rd through the tunnel at Nundah. As the kids head back to school we ask: do they have the best opportunity to succeed?

24 Jan 2021

A momentous week: North Brisbane Bikeway stage 4 is complete, Victoria Bridge closes to cars, and the first green paint appears on Edward St! There was good news about Granard Road at Rocklea, Sandgate Rd at Nundah, and the Eastern Transitway at Carina. Sadly, Lytton Rd though Morningside is a very different story.
