We’ve been quiet for a few days recently while a number of us have had time out away from Brisbane – by bike of course! Have you had a chance to check out the rail trails in our region?
Some of our favourites:
- Brisbane Valley Rail Trail from Yarraman to Wulkaraka (where you can connect with the train to Ipswich).
- South Burnett Rail Trail – from Kingaroy to Kilkivan on a line that used to connect through to Theebine. (How good would it be to have that whole length turned into a trail?!)
- Caboolture to Wamuran, and (informally) through to Woodford on a line that once went as far as Kilkoy – perhaps another amazing opportunity to extend that trail?

Well done to the Queensland Government and the various regional Councils that have invested in rail trails, creating healthy local connections and attracting tourism to their towns.
TMR are currently seeking input on a proposal for a 20km recreation trail (active transport corridor) between Beerburrum and Landsborough, as part of the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade project. This would be another fabulous route. The trail will provide opportunities for residents and visitors to bike and walk between these Sunshine Coast hinterland towns.
We’re all in favour! You can ride “off-road” between Beerburrum and Landsborough now, but you have to be…shall we say…keen. A proper off-road active transport connection between these towns will be great for locals and visitors alike.

Please get on to the survey, and let TMR know how you might use the trail.
