State Budget 2019-20

Well, there are no particular surprises in the Queensland State Budget released today, but we are happy to see funding is committed in 2019-20 to:

Complete construction of the Veloway 1 (V1) Cycleway (stage E) project between Birdwood Road in Holland Park West and Gaza Road at Tarragindi;

NBBopening1Continue construction of the North Brisbane Bikeway (stage 2 and 3) between Windsor and Wooloowin, and complete the design for stage 4 between Rigby Street and Price Street;

in the details, there is also funding to perform further “link planning” for the Centenary Cycleway from Richlands train station to Springfield.

As we’ve previously noted, there are also a number of major road projects underway where we’ve been successful in getting good outcomes for cycling, notably:

IpswichRdIpswich Motorway (Rocklea – Darra) (stage 1), which will provide a cycle connection from Oxley to the Granard Road interchange at Rocklea

Construction of the Sumners Road interchange over the Centenary Motorway, which will significantly upgrade the Centenary Bikeway.

Looking further out, the TMR project list (which includes indicative funding for 2020-21 and beyond) contains good news regarding a couple of other projects we have been advocating for:

OKeefeStVeloway 1 (V1) Cycleway at O’Keefe Street has a small amount allocated in 2019-20, ramping up to $5.3million in 2020-21, to a predicted $14.5 project total.

Griffith Arterial Cycleway: $2.3million (mostly in 2020-21) to construct Granard Road Cycleway from Ipswich Motorway to Balham Road), and “transport project planning” from Balham Road – Logan Road
