Vicki Ryan
Vicki Ryan, Labor’s candidate for Northgate Ward, along with her colleagues Darren Mitchell (Labor for Marchant) and Tracey Price (Labor’s candidate for Lord Mayor) hadn’t ridden an e-bike before they went for a ride with Stephen, Andrew, and Anna from Brisbane North BUG last Friday. However, all three candidates quickly discovered the joy and power of e-bikes by making any hill almost disappear. Tracey even went so far as to say it was releasing her inner wonder woman!
On Friday’s ride, they explored part of the Kedron Brook Bikeway, before heading up to the North Brisbane Bikeway. From there they went down the proposed Stage 5 North Brisbane Bikeway route through Eagle Junction to experience and understand how much safer protected infrastructure feels.

Tracey is planning on getting herself an e-bike and has previously ridden around Brisbane with her children. Vicki also used to ride around her ward along the bikeways up to Nudgee and surrounds. That’s not too much of a surprise as she is related to the previous Labor Councillor for the Northgate Ward, Kim Flesser. Prior to Friday, Vicki’s last ride was with her children riding around New York Central Park – an experience they all loved. Darren, who’s hoping to represent neighbouring Marchant Ward hasn’t been on a bike for a while either, since riding with his children when they were young. However, all three loved riding the e-bikes.
Along the ride, we discussed how important connected infrastructure is and how close the North Brisbane Bikeway is to connecting to the Kedron Brook Bikeway. As well the benefits for both wards once the bikeways are finally connected.
Thanks again for riding with us Vicki and Darren, and big thanks to Tracey Price on her second candidate’s ride this campaign. We hope to see you on the (newly connected?) bikeways very soon!!
