Wendy Aghdam
Brisbane CBD BUG started preparing early for the March 2024 elections: last year, Mary and Donald rode with Wendy Aghdam – The Greens candidate for Central Ward. Starting at Teneriffe, they followed the river into the CBD, rode the CityLink Cycleway, re-joined the Bicentennial Bikeway, and then rode back up at North Quay and through the Roma St Parklands to Gregory Terrace to finish in Victoria Park.

Wendy’s a regular rider – in fact she does the school run with her kids by cargo bike! So we were definitely preaching to the converted when we spoke of calmer traffic, more priority for active transport, and the importance of separated and protected infrastructure – particularly to enable more women and kids to bike.
Wendy already had first-hand experience with many of the issues we highlighted, and is very keen to put the Link in CityLink so more people can bike or scoot to destinations in the CBD, rather than skirting around the edges. Having experienced how the school run is easier, cheaper, and more fun by bike, Wendy is keen for others to have that opportunity too.
Central Ward deserves a bike champion in City Hall, and Wendy is one who will certainly be after a bike parking spot, not a carpark if elected in March.
