Q10: Please list at least one project or initiative that you will actively support to improve cycling in your ward.
1. Improving the safety and flow of bicycle traffic inbound along Sinnamon Road between Burrendah Road and Centenary Bikeway. Currently that section of Sinnamon Road is frequently banked back with 2 lanes of traffic, despite only 1 road lane being present. Cyclists such as myself need to filter between 2 lines of traffic and then make a tricky crossing onto the bikeway to proceed, or take a significant detour via Kooringal Drive.
2. Extending the shared path on Jindalee Recreation Reserve along the fence line connecting to the newly refurbished footpath on Wongaburra Street, providing sealed access for children to ride bicycles to Jindalee State School
3. Improvement of the bridge and path between Beanland Street and Loffs Road. The path has been refurbished between Beanland Street and the bridge, but the bridge itself and the path connecting to Loffs Road are narrow and require maintenance. Again this improves a safe route for children to Jamboree Heights State School, C&K Kindergarten and Good News Lutheran School.
4. Removal or redesign of the roundabout at Hazelton Street, Middle Park outside Middle Park State School to provide a safer bike lane that extends up Sumners Road on a fairly steep climb. Currently the roundabout has a bike lane on the outside edge that is absolutely lethal.
5. Installation of a zebra crossing outside Chase the Rider on Arrabri Avenue between Jindivick Street and Curragundi Road. This provides a safe crossing point for children riding to and from Jindalee State School and Centenary High School, who are currently frequently trapped on the traffic island at the intersection itself as motorists fail to obey the “give way to pedestrians on the street you are turning in to” rule.
6. Improving the link between Rocks Riverside Park and the off road shared path along Seventeen Mile Rocks Road between Oldfield Road and Counihan Street. Currently this is a weak point in providing a safe route from Jindalee/Sinnamon Park to Darra Station, requiring cyclists to navigate that busy roundabout on Seventeen Mile Rocks road to get to or from that shared path.
Q11: Any other comments you would like to make
As your Greens BCC candidate in the Jamboree ward I have been a great advocate for cycling. Our whole family cycles to work and school, I led a successful petition for cycling infrastructure improvements as well as being the driving force behind the implementation of cycle skills courses in a big local primary school – now in its sixth year.
